"That sounds like fun! My favorite thing is playing with my friends!" Rainy says cheerfully
I dont actually know if we are.
"Spike’s lucky to have a sister…-ish relationship thingy with you!" Rainy says.
"Sure, there was a couple families, we were near the Equestrian border after all. None with foal my age, they were mostly business ponies who helped movie things around, and I didn’t talk to them much. Not as fun as the ponies in Ponyville!"
"Sorry Zeph, no opinicus! It wasn’t that big of a town, so I’m pretty sure I’d have noticed. Though we had a lot of griffs and ponies go through, so there could’ve easily been some opinicus alongside them!"
"No," says the Princess, "A wand is merely a focus, no different than a horn. Some larger focii can be used to channel the magic of multiple ponies at once, but they cannot be used to give one pony’s magic to another."
"Hmm… I can’t really say Gilda, because she’s not in Birdingham anymore! Well, since it was on a small mountain, we got really cool weather… and school was pretty fun… and occasionally when griffons or ponies were going to or from Equestria, they’d have some really cool stuff they were carrying and we’d be able to see it or buy it or stuff! I guess there was actually a lot of cool stuff there," Feather says.
See? It wasn’t a facehoof!

"It’s true, we don’t facehoof!"
Feather reluctantly asks, “So, uh, while we’re on the subject, do you have any questions about what it was like back when I lived in Birdingham?”
(Following off Part 1)
Princess Luna clears her throat, and turns the page, to one showing a unicorn’s broken horn, a pony without a horn, and a griffon.
"The first wands were created for unicorns who had broken their horns in ways that could not be healed, allowing them to use their spells despite their injuries.
"Later it was discovered that non-unicorns could use them as well, though rarely. Perhaps one in ten to one in twenty Earth or Pegasus ponies are capable of using a wand for more than the smallest of tricks that they couldn’t perform without it."
The Princess looks up, “This, be assured, is not due to a lack of magic or something that simple- Indeed, Rainbow Feather’s honored mother Rainbow Dash possesses magic reserves surpassing that of the highly magically skilled unicorn, and mother of my goddaughter Midnight, Trixie- however, it is usually the case that the pony’s magic is focused in their own special talents. As a result, while Rainbow Dash’s sonic rainboom produces an amount of magic surpassing all but the most powerful spells, she herself is incapable of casting spells even with a wand.”
"Thus," she continues, "Even out of those capable of using a wand, most find themselves only able to perform one or two spells directly related to their cutie mark, with the number of mages capable of casting many spells a small minority of those, just as it is with unicorns."
"Out of other species," Luna indicates, "Ability to use wands is less common, save in species that tend to have their own magic, but when they do learn, they often have greater flexibility in learning their initial spells than many ponies do, owing perhaps to their lack of cutie mark (not counting those with their own magic that tends to be directed in it’s own fashion). While never carefully tested, it is estimated that perhaps one in twenty five griffons have magic suitable to learning a spell. Great magic potential needed to become a wizard is, once again, similarly even rarer, but does exist."
"Rainbow Feather is unusual in that her magic is clearly pony in nature, and as effectively a high-magic pony without a cutie mark, her magic isn’t focused and is suitable for use with a wand. A crystal wand specifically as it will continue to resonate with her and channel her magic however it grows in the future. My student is an unusual case and thus it is hard to say how she will develop, but combined with her talent for being able to see magic, I am sure she will be able to put her skills to good use no matter how she develops."
"Does any of thou have any questions?"
"I mean, I don’t want you to think it was all bad! I still got to play in school games, and some times with a few of the other kids, and mommy was always there for me!" Feather adds!
